Irish fans gather in cinemas and around tellies to say goodbye to Monty Python

Always look on the bright side of life.

LAST NIGHT THE final Monty Python show ever was broadcast from London to tellies and cinemas across the UK, Ireland and the world

The O2 show featuring Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, John Cleese and Terry Jones was broadcast on Gold, pulling in an audience of 700,000 in the UK alone.

Fans gathered in cinemas across the country; in Limerick, Dublin, Cork, Antrim, Galway, Newry and many more.

Dara O’Briain was tasked with hosting the pre-show backstage banter, where he interviewed a whirlwind of stars all gathered for the big farewell.

O’Briain also reminded the watching audiences that Life of Brian was banned in Ireland and took to Twitter during the show to defend some well-placed censorship of some of the more delicate pre-watershed moments.

Gold will be showing a repeat of the entire broadcast tomorrow which they promise will be uncensored.

Clocking in at three hours, there were cameos from Eddie Izzard, Mike Myers and Brian Cox among others.

The five surviving Monty Python members led the audience in a singalong of Always Look on the Bright Side of Life for the show finale:

Afterwards O’Briain described the show as “more scary that I had imagined” while in his review Ed Power in The Telegraph remembered the show as “deeply poignant” but also “predictable”.
