6 situations where you wish you could magic up money

Just wiggle your nose and there it is. Imagine.

THERE ARE TIMES in life when we all wish we had access to a magic wand.

Red lights all the way into town? Bing, gone. Got skipped in the queue? With a wave of your hand, the dastardly fiend is gone.

A lot of these dream scenarios seem to involve money, though, don’t they? Let’s take a look at the times when we wish we could blink and magic up some cash to prevent awkwardness…

1. All bar none

Set the scene: You’re in the queue for the bar at a gig, and you’re with those brilliant new friends you met up at the front and will be friends with forever (ahem). They’ve been footing the bill all night, you’ve all trekked through the incredibly long queues, and… Your wallet is empty. Eek.

2. Breaking bread

This is the classic. We’ve all been there. You’ve gone out for Christmas catch-up drinks and the bill comes. You’ve left your wallet at home, you plank. And yet, even as you say it, and swear you’ll get your mates back, you’re aware it sounds a little like you’re fobbing them off. Sigh.

3. Stand your (g)round

You’re at the Christmas office party and just brought up enough cash from the table for your own drink. But – nightmare – here comes that guy Dave from Accounts, who you owe a drink. And you’ve no money to get it. Style this one out and offer him a glass of water. Grand. Er, sort of.

4. Three cheers for Christmas cheer

Places like Christmas markets – which typically lack ATMs and debit machines – would be ideal for a bit of money magic. You’ll never feel aggrieved leaving that gorgeous reindeer statuette behind again. Not to mention missing out on the gingerbread.

5. Sister sister

Listen. Dad’s Christmas present has been long bought – and yet you’ve still yet to cough up the cash to your siblings for his present. Poof, and the money’s in their account. Hey, if it means less moaning from your sister, we’re on board.

6. Coming up short

We’ve all been in that situation where we’re about 50c short of what we need to buy. When haggling, then wheedling, then outright desperation don’t work, magic would be a handy alternative, no?
