will he keep the beard?

Michael Fassbender (and his beard) for new Star Wars film?

Sure don’t we already know he has a rather impressive lightsaber?

HIS BROMANCE DANCE with Benedict Cumberbatch at the Golden Globes was glorious, but are Michael Fassbender and the Sherlock star getting set to work together on the big screen again?

The Star Wars Episode VII rumour mill is turning and The Hollywood Reporter says it’s put our Mick at the top of the list for a role in the new film, alongside Lord of The Rings staple Hugo Weaving and Girls star Adam Driver.

The three join Fassbender’s 12 Years A Slave co-stars Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor on a list of possible Star Wars newcomers that includes Saoirse Ronan, Michael B. Jordan (The Wire), Jack O’Connell (Skins), Alex Pettyfer, and Sullivan Stapleton (Strike Back).

Breaking Bad star Jesse Plemons is also rumoured to be in contention for a lead role in the movie. TheWrap‘s sources claimed Plemons was scheduled to meet with Abrams this week, but hastened to add that nothing had been confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm.

Official updates on the film have been few and far between since StarWars.com officially announced the departure of screenwriter Michael Arndt and revealed the film’s release date last November, so we could be waiting a while to find out what the story is.

If Fassbender does end up on board he’ll be able to add another Sci-Fi franchise to his already rather impressive CV.

He resumes his role as a young Magneto opposite James McAvoy, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart in X-Men: Days of Future Past later this year, and will eventually step back into the shoes of Prometheus android David for the sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2012 film.

Now for the all important question though: If he gets a role will he keep the beard?
