Michael D Higgins

Higgins is a former TD for the Galway West constituency and member of the Labour Party. He was first elected to the Dail in 1981 but lost his seat in '82, he was elected again in '87 and was a TD until announcing that he would not run for re-election in the 2011 election. During Labour's time in government Higgins was the Minister for Arts, Culture and Gaeltacht.
