YOU CAN KEEP your Shelbournes and your Patrick Gilbauds. There is a host of great food on offer in Dublin for just €10 or less – here are a few places to hit up.
A burger at the Generator Hostel, Smithfield
Juicy and full of flavour, the most expensive burger on the menu here is a mere €8.95. And that’s with an impressively-sized portion of chips. A STEAL.
Anything from the Fallon and Byrne deli on Exchequer Street
Do not be put off by Fallon and Byrne’s fancy reputation – their deli counter has a huge range of delicious food on offer, from pasta, to chilli, to a hearty stew. Prices range from €8-€9.95, and you can sit in or take away as you please.
A lunchtime bento box from Ukiyo, also on Exchequer Street
A little lunchbox consisting of a tasty dish of the day, along with rice and veggies. Don’t be dissuaded by it being on the lunch menu, though – you can get a bento box any time from 12-5pm. Perfect.
The buffet at Han Sung Asian Market, Strand Street Great
If you’re looking for good Korean food on the cheap, check out this buffet nestled at the back of an Asian supermarket. It looks a bit like a university canteen, but the dishes are to die for, and most of them are under €10.
A burrito from Boojum, Kevin Street/Millennium Walkway
Eat one of these and you will not need to eat again for a year. Probably. And for only €6.50, you’ll have more than enough change for the bus home.
Pork belly at Green 19, Camden Street
Five of the ten main courses on the Green 19 menu are a mere €10. Let that sink in for a second. You can choose from burgers, chicken, or burritos – but how often can you get tasty pork belly for a tenner? Go for it.
Falafel at Umi, Dame Street
Falafel sandwiches are around €6, but the lunch meal deals are where it’s really at. Until 5pm, you can get yourself a falafel plate with salad, hummus, bread and a drink for just €7.50. A veritable feast!
Pulled pork sandwich at Bison Bar, Wellington Quay

Bison Bar is famed across the city for its delectable pulled pork – if you want to try it on the cheap, go around lunchtime for one of their great sandwiches. It’s €7.95 to eat in, and comes with a bowl of chips. *thumbs up*
Paneer at Govinda’s, Aungier/Middle Abbey Street
Dublin vegetarians are probably already well acquainted with this restaurant (run by the Hare Krishnas), but if you’re not, get down there for a selection of veggie and vegan-friendly food. A tray of paneer (an Indian cheese with veg in tomato sauce) is €7.95.
The stalls at the Epicurean Food Hall, Liffey Street
So not strictly one great meal, but there’s a vast array of food to choose from at the Epicurean Food Hall – Brazilian, Italian, and Greek, to name just a few. Open until 7pm.
