Rogelio Andaverde staged his kidnapping to escape his wife. Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office
Hide and Seek

Man fakes his own abduction so he can party with his mates

We imagine his wife must feel pretty bothered by it all.

IT WAS A seriously creative ploy to nip out to the pub.

34-year-old Rogelio Andaverde from Texas was enjoying a quiet night in with his better half on Tuesday when he was abducted at gunpoint by two masked men who broke into their house.

Well, at least that’s what he would have you believe.

His wife, Maria, hysterically called police to report the abduction and the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s office launched a full-on man hunt, even getting a police helicopter involved.

However, there was no sign of him–well–until he returned home on Thursday saying that his kidnappers let him go. Nice try. The police didn’t believe Andaverde, with Sheriff Lupe Trevino telling The Monitor he had doubts from the get-go, asking his colleagues:

Do you really believe this? He’s just a regular Joe, no criminal history, anything. It’s just not right.

Andaverde eventually admitted that the whole thing was a massive ploy to spend some time with his mates. Well, we hope he enjoyed it, because the only place Andaverde is going to now is jail.

He was charged with one count of false report to a police officer, which is an equivalent charge to that of a first-offence driving under the influence.

However, we’d still rather that over his wife’s wrath. Speaking to My San Antonio.com, Trevino said:

I don’t think his wife appreciated being kept until 4 or 5 in the morning, being interviewed by the cops while her husband was out doing who knows what with who knows who. He’s going to have a lot of answering to do.

Police are still attempting to find the friends involved to decide if they should be charged as well. Trevino finished with, “It was all so dumb”.

We’re not arguing.
