MAD MEN CREATOR Matthew Weiner has reached a new multi-million dollar contract deal with the network AMC after heated negotiations between the two parties saw production on the latest season of the series delayed by months.

Weiner had objected to AMC’s cost-cutting proposals which included dropping two regular cast members from the show per season and shaving a few minutes from each episode to increase advertising time.

Now, characters will now only be dropped if it suits the creative direction of the show.

The Huffington Post reports that Weiner released a statement thanking the show’s “wonderful fans” for their support.

Weiner also thanked the network and production company for agreeing a deal “to support the artistic freedom of myself, the cast and the crew, so that we can continue to make the show exactly as we have from the beginning “.

However, Weiner told Deadline Hollywood that the three new seasons he has signed for with AMC will be “the last three seasons” of the show. “I’m going to take it one year at a time without the distraction to ever have to go through this again,” he said.
