Summer is ending, but love is in the air.

1. Go for ice-cream at Gino’s

Pick up a creamy & delicious gelato from Gino’s and wander down Shop Street where buskers and street performers are always on hand to prevent any awkward silences.

2. Take a road trip (a very short one) to Spiddal

Take a spin out to Spiddal on a sunny day. The village itself is picturesque, but when you add in two beaches and a scatter of pubs and cafes, it’s a perfect afternoon date spot. Grab an ice-cream and walk on the sand, or settle in for an evening of trad music for a date night like your folks used to have!

3. Ride the Ferris wheel in Salthill

While summer is in full swing, the Ferris Wheel, beside Leisureland is the ultimate in throwback romance. Pretend you’re 16 and soak up the brilliant views over Galway Bay from the air.. Just make sure you’ve cured any fear of heights before heading up there.

Grab lunch from one of the incredibly good food vans in the market by St Nicholas’ Church (falafel or doughnuts are a good choice) and take a gentle walk along the canals, before finishing up at the benches in NUIG, where you can watch the world go by.

9. Spend a night together with the arts

Galway is a city of the arts, go for a date with a difference at one of the many theatre/arts events that happen throughout the year. Start with the Town Hall Theatre, An Taibhdhearc and the Druid: they all offer varied programmes, worth a look if you want to impress.

10. Eat oysters for dinner

We’ve all heard what oysters can do. Head out to Morans on the Weir, a family run restaurant famed for its seafood and where oysters are a speciality. A dish of oysters, washed down with a pint is perfection.

11. And watch the sunset in Kinvara

It’s not too long a drive (about 40 minutes) from the city and is worth it for the amazing views and chilled-out setting away from the hustle and bustle of Salthill.
