Breathe a sigh of relief: that amazing Lego note from the 1970s appears to be legit

PHEW.

IF YOU WERE active on Twitter over the weekend, chances are that you stumbled upon that image of parental instructions distributed by Lego in 1974.

The note, originally posted to Reddit by user fryd_, was included in Lego toys in the 1970s and advised parents to let their child build whatever they want, regardless of their gender.

A lot of boys like dolls houses. They’re more human than spaceships. A lot of girls prefer spaceships. They’re more exciting than dolls houses.

Needless to say, the progressive and egalitarian instructions went super viral.

Some naysayers immediately began to express concern that it was a fake.

However, as soon as the original note surfaced, several international versions of the note expressing the same sentiment started to appear.

Here it in Portuguese.

Meanwhile, an enterprising Reddit user discovered that the serial numbers (97880-Eng) at the bottom of each note corresponded with one another and were associated with a Lego Homemaker Set, which was one of Lego’s first toys aimed at girls.

So unless someone has gone to extreme lengths to falsify the notes in several languages, it seems we can breathe a sigh of relief: it’s legit.
