Kim Kardashian says she has 'pregnancy lips' -- but is that even a thing?

We investigated.

AS YOU ARE most likely well aware, Kim Kardashian is pregnant

Yesterday she tweeted a selfie (of course) and captioned it, “Pregnancy lips”.

“Pregnancy lips?” the internet cried. “Kim, that’s not a thing!”

Some even accused her of using her pregnancy to cover up the fact that she had fillers.

But are “pregnancy lips” an actual thing?

Maybe!

Rand Rusher didn’t go so far as to confirm their existence, but he did tell US Weekly that it’s possible.

During pregnancy, hormones can cause fluid retention, which leads to increased swelling. This can occur in different parts of the body, including the face. It’s a common occurrence.

Meanwhile, midwife Virgina Howes told Heat that swollen lips could be a side-effect of the increased volume of blood in a woman’s body during pregnancy.

When you’re pregnant, your body produces more blood (up to 50 per cent more) to protect you, as women lose blood when they give birth. All the areas of your body that are vascular and have lots of nerve endings, like your lips, have more blood in them and therefore become more swollen.

A quick gander on Twitter reveals that many women claim to have been afflicted by “pregnancy lips”.

Although some people still aren’t sold that it’s actually a thing.

This is not the first time Kardashian has claimed to have pregnancy lips.

During her first pregnancy, the reality star described her pregnancy lips as “outta control”.
