Julian Assange to guest star in The Simpsons

The show’s executive producer said Assange was a “controversial” figure – but that his appearance in the show would be purely satirical.

WIKILEAKS FOUNDER JULIAN Assange is to appear as a guest character in The Simpsons – playing a neighbour of the family during an episode in which they move from their home in Springfield.

Assange’s character will appear in episode 500 of the long-running cartoon, which will air on 19 February in the US.

The show’s executive producer Al Jean told Entertainment Weekly he recognised that Assange was a controversial figure, but said that his appearance was “satirical” – and that the episode addressed nothing to do with “the legal situation that he’s in”.

Assange recorded the vocals from the UK, where he is currently under house arrest. On Wednesday he is due to appeal an extradition order to Sweden, where he is wanted in connection with sexual assault allegations.

It would seem that the 40-year-old may have ambitions that beyond guest spots in animated series, however, as there has recently been suggestion that he has been planning his own television show. The theme of the show would reportedly be  ‘the world tomorrow’, and Assange would speak with “iconoclasts, visionaries and power insiders” during the programme.
