Irish couples are spending a staggering amount of money on weddings

You’d want to be made of money.

A SURVEY CONDUCTED by Mrs2Be has revealed that Irish couples spend a lot of money on their weddings.

The results of the survey revealed that the average couple will spend €24,580 on their wedding and honeymoon. The bulk of the budget goes on reception and venue hire (approx. €9,825), followed by honeymoon (almost €5,000), band (€1,840), dress (€1,570) and photographer (€1,435).

That overall spend marks a 2.6% increase on what couples dropped in 2012.

The survey also reveals that most couples will have between 101-150 guests, with the average cost per head coming in between €51-€60.

Our wallets ache just thinking about it.

Interestingly, despite dropping thousands on their weddings, most Irish couples opt not to get insurance. A prudent lot, we are.

Elsewhere, December comes in as the most popular month to get engaged (fuzzy Christmas feelings and all that) and the typical engagement lasts between 13 and 18 months.

Almost 1 in 4 couples will opt to get married somewhere other than a church, while the vast majority of couples will live together for at least 2 years before putting a ring on it.
