We’ve rounded up some of Ireland’s best efforts this April Fools’ Day, in a definitive ranking from 13 to 1. How many did you fall for?
13. Matt Cooper moving to TXFM
Phantom FM replacement TXFM just launched yesterday, so we were unlikely to be taken in by this one. We do like the idea of a whole show dedicated to the music of Rush though.
12. Garth Brooks cancels Dublin shows
The evil tricksters at London-based The Irish Post tried to trick the Garth fans with this one, claiming he “couldn’t be arsed” putting the Croke Park shows because of a paintballing disagreement.
11. Cork IT’s website goes black and white
Students at Cork Institute of Technology were greeted with a notice on their website this morning informing them that if they wanted to view the site in colour, they had to buy the appropriate licence.
10. Photos of Dublin
This photo account, which is usually fairly straight, has been having some fun today.
10. Dolphin in the Liffey
A good few people were taken in by this, with some even tweeting DailyEdge.ie to see if we had spotted it.
9. Camile Thai’s Irish coconut milk
Dublin thai restaurant Camile Thai went to the bother of making a video to promote their “Ireland and Europe’s first locally produced coconut milk”. Good effort.
8. Shannon Airport to be renamed
The airport and Davy Fitz were in on this fairly believable hoax.
7. Ireland heading for the World Cup
This Irish Times joke proposed that Ireland could be called up for the World Cup after France’s participation was thrown into doubt. Commenters were taken in:

6. Dáithí Ó Sé, the poet
It’s the simplicity we like here. Also, the mental image of Dáithí smelling the Roses.

This one was chillingly believable. In fact, we’re still not convinced that it’s not actually happening.
4. Pussy Riot playing in Cork
To be fair, it’s not a huge stretch beyond ‘Pussy Riot to participate in first ever televised European interview on The Saturday Night Show with Brendan O’Connor’.
3. Bacon and cabbage pizza
“The best of both Italian and Irish cuisine… available with carrot and parsnip toppings for that added taste of Irishness”. Good work Supermacs.
2. Garth Brooks moving gig to Semple Stadium.
There are so many delicate nuances in this Tipp FM prank, from the misspelling of ‘Gareth Brooks’ to the “possibility that Tipperary great Brendan Cummins could MC for the night”. Poetry.
1. Cadbury’s blue cheese Easter Egg
The number of people taken in by this – including several media outlets – has been quite staggering.
However, a Cadbury spokesperson has confirmed to DailyEdge.ie that it is in fact a fake.
