In Safari, go to maps.google.ie, click on the arrow at the bottom of the screen, click “add to home screen”.
Voila!

This doesn’t integrate it with the rest of the OS however.

I use google maps quite a bit on my phone so won’t update to ios6 because of it either.

They are definitely working on one but no release date yet.

There’s a decent free app called ” ifindyou” if you miss the street view.

They’ve said the more popped use the new maps the better they will get, apparently.

The data is crap everywhere. It’s not a finished product. They should never have released it so soon. I’d say its a year away of where it should be.

They want the money that comes from your location data. Greediness.

True. But apple, google, Samsung, even your local centra all want one thing off you. Money, directly or indirectly.

True but you expect a certain quality of service in return no? This is a cheap piece of software that damages their image. You gotta wonder is it worth the quick buck. Another year in development and it could have been good.

True, this has been a complete shambles. And the relevant silence from apple on it (apart from the statement released, which is usual PR spin) says it all. What they should have done was release their app as a standalone app in the AppStore, stick a big beta sign on it and get people to participle in it. The amount of damage control that this needs is massive for Apple as a company.

On the plus side, the precise location of the “Garden of Ireland” has finally been pinpointed. Its a strangely shaped piece of grass due west of Wicklow Town. Who knew!

Look, I don’t care which phone is better or which operating system knocks spots off the opposition. I own an Apple iPod, an Android phone, a Windows PC and a Kindle reader so I’m a complete technology agnostic and not in any camp or with any axe to grind

But this has been an absolutely spectacular fail on behalf of Apple. In their desperation to attack Google they have released a product that shouldn’t have even got past the most preliminary testing cycle. And now its complete arrogance to say to people “just be patient”.

When Microsoft used to release shoddy versions of their software the IT community used to jump on top of them. It can be no different for Apple. The sad thing about this is that this story is completely undermining any positive message they wanted to communicate about iOS6.

The new maps app has a better map of where I live and where I work than the old google app. If it wasn’t true I wouldn’t say it.

Just checked google maps and they’re still using a six year old satellite picture. Apple has a recent one.

Would you honestly trust this with directions or finding landmarks if you we’re abroad? There’s whole towns missing for god sake lol
