Inspired by Facebook, Israeli couple name daughter 'Like'

An Israeli couple have decided to name their baby girl after the ‘thumbs up’ function on the social networking site…

AN ISRAELI COUPLE have turned to Facebook in their quest for an unusual name for their newborn daughter – and named her Like after the ‘thumbs up’ function on the social networking site.

The baby’s father Lior Adler said it was important to him and his wife to pick unusual names for their children. Haaretz quote Adler as saying that the name Like had a nice “international” ring to it – and was appropriate for the times as Facebook had become the icon of a generation.

“If once people gave Biblical names and that was the icon, then today this is one of the most famous icons in the world,” he said.

The Israeli newspaper Maariv quotes Adler as saying “In our opinion it’s the modern equivalent of the name Ahava [Love]. It’s just my way of saying to my fantastic daughter, ‘Love’.”

Lior and his wife Vardit have two other children who, unsurprisingly, also have rather unusual names: Dvash (honey in Hebrew) and Pie.
