There's a US dating show where girls compete to marry a fake 'Prince Harry'

Only they don’t know he’s not actually Prince Harry.

US TV NETWORK Fox have managed to produce a new dating show that makes Take Me Out look cerebral.

I Wanna Marry Harry sees 12 American girls fly to the UK and compete to win the heart Prince Harry.

OK, not Prince Harry – but a Prince Harry lookalike, who will try to persuade him that he is in fact the fourth in line to the British Throne. Of course, he will eventually have to reveal his true self, but in the hope that his chosen girl really loves him for “who he is”.

No matter that the guy only looks like Prince Harry if you stand very far away and squint a little while tilting your head to one side. Seriously.

To persuade the girls that the lookalike is actually Prince Harry, the show’s producers have set him up in a castle in the UK and given him lessons in royal history and “posh” pursuits like hunting and fencing.

If you’re wondering how this even works, well… Let’s say the contestants are easily convinced.

The lookalike, 23-year-old Matthew Hicks, told the BBC that he believes the real Prince Harry would “think it was quite funny”. Perhaps, but the critics don’t think so.

The show premiered on Fox TV early last week to bad ratings and scathing reviews, with Time.com calling it “shameless”.

The show is unlikely to hit this side of the Atlantic, but here’s a sneak peek. Judge for yourselves…
