Here's why everyone hates Larry from Orange is the New Black

There are spoilers in here, in case you haven’t finished Season 2 yet.

FORGET VEE, FORGET Healy – during Season 2 of Orange is the New Black, Piper Chapman’s drippy fiancé Larry Bloom emerged as the most reviled character.

He’s so hated that the AV Club’s reviews contain a segment about his misdoings called ‘Ugh, Larry’ and fans keep altering the character’s Wiki page to say things like this:

right-now Uproxx Uproxx

right-now-2 Uproxx Uproxx

But how exactly did Larry become such a figure of hate for fans of the show? There are a few reasons.

1. He’s played by Jason Biggs

Orange is the new Black photocall - London Doug Peters / EMPICS Entertainment Doug Peters / EMPICS Entertainment / EMPICS Entertainment

Who is probably a really nice guy, but he just LOOKS annoying. The character was doomed from the start.

2. Piper is the only exciting thing about Larry’s life

He even used her prison experiences to try and boost his own career. Come on.

When Piper called him  the “moon” to her sun, it was mean but pretty much spot on.

3. His scenes take away from valuable Litchfield time

Seriously.

4. He somehow got away with having a happy ending, despite everything

LARRY. OF ALL THE CHARACTERS.

5. The real-life Larry is actually pretty cool

Which makes fake-Larry all the more irritating.

Real-life Larry is the creator of the Six-Word Memoir project, which collects six word biographies from famous people.

If he wasn’t married to Piper Kerman (the writer of the book the show is based on) he’d probably be pretty mad at the way he’s portrayed on OITNB.
