DEEP-SEA DRINKING

Guinness turns submarine into deep-sea bar

The walls are covered in rubber discs and LED lights as the bar is (literally) lowered.

FANCY A PINT of the black stuff twenty leagues under the sea? Step on board the first-ever Guinness submarine.

The vessel, designed by London-based architecture practice Jump Studios, comes with its very own deep-sea bar.

The groovy interior looks like it has been taken straight out of an Austin Power movie, with walls covered in rubber discs and LED lights creating a psychedelic atmosphere.

The archdaily.com reports that party goers were taken to new depths in Stockholm when the submarine completed its first test run in the Baltic Sea.

The design was commissioned for the Guinness Sea Experience competition, celebrating the brand’s 250th anniversary. Jump Studios was asked to create an interior for the vessel that reflected the Guinness brand statement ‘Alive Inside’.

The underwater bar resembles floating bubbles with some bubble-discs hollowed out to serve as a handy place to put your cans or bottles. It gives a whole new meaning to the saying ‘drunken sailor’ – it sure would make for a great venue to celebrate Arthur’s Day this year.
