Totally agree. When leaving prison you should be walking out thinking “I NEVER want to go back in there”. This is unlikely with TVs, playstations, gym, tuck shop etc available.

That depends on whether you want them to be rehabilitated or not. The prisons that have the least strict or harsh conditions in Europe also have the lowest re-offending rate. That has to be a good thing.

Hang and flog em? No, just have the detainment centres as stripped down as possible. Good necessities (toilet, wash and bedding facilities), proper nutrition, books to allow them to entertain themselves in an educational way, audio books for those who can’t read, but nothing else. No TVs, no games consoles, no radios, nothing. That’ll stop them forgetting to attend the Garda station on a Saturday morning while they’re out on probation.
