THE BLOOM 2012 garden festival gets underway tomorrow and continues throughout the weekend at the Phoenix Park.

Today, some people were given a sneak peek at this year’s exhibits, including Gardaí Barry Heffernan and Pauline Firth who tested out the ‘Amach agus Isteach’ garden designed by Alan Rudden and David Ryan:

They’re only normal people doing their job, just because they’re gardai everyone thinks they shouldn’t be allowed show the country that they too can have a bit of craic???
They’re the same as everyone else, I’d have more respect for a Garda not afraid to get their pic taken like that, they have to deal with enough sh1t every other hour of the day.
And no I’m not a Garda.

Because there in the Garda band! It only performs ceremonial duties. All members of the Garda band are attested i.e. have full powers however only received a fraction of the training normal gardai go through.

  Same as the army band, ceremonial duties etc. it’s a food way for a talented musician to get full time work. You’ll find almost every country has one.
  
  Afaik the Army lads have a bit more army training than the Garda band has Garda training but nonetheless neither are easy jobs and require the musicians to be both on top of their game and fit. I’ve seen the army band march for 2-3 miles and keep the music going throughout. And for anyone who plays brass, it takes a lot of wind to keep them yokes going hence you’d need some stamina to blow into one of them an march at a moderate pace!! I know I’d be in bits even trying to talk constantly and march that kinda distance!!
