Found Footage Festival comes to Ireland

Prepare to cringe at collection of oddest home and corporate video clips. And yes, they are mostly from the 1980s.

IF YOU THINK the funniest video clips are the ones that weren’t intended to be funny, then you’re going to love this.

The creators of the Found Footage festival in the US are bringing their show to Ireland for just one night as part of Trashfest. Nick Prueher and Joe Pickett – whose credits include The Onion and The Late Show with David Letterman – have made it their mission to uncover hilarious bits of old VHS footage from attics, charity shops and car boot sales and bring them to light.

We’re not talking wannabe Jackass stunt fans posting clips of themselves on Youtube  – this ‘found footage’ is old video material which was never intended to cause hilarity, but does. As Prueher explains: “From the curiously-produced corporate training video to the forsaken home movie left in a trash bin, the Found Footage Festival resurrects these treasures in a 90-minute celebration of all things found”.

The Found Footage showcase will be at Screen cinema on Dublin’s D’Olier Street on 11 July at 8.30pm (tickets are €10 in). Highlights from the show include a video of a woman whose enthusiasm for paint sponging borders on the psychotic, a travel video for Rio de Janeiro from 1983 hosted by a young and frisky Arnold Schwarzenegger and some of these fantastic gems…
