HAVING FAILED AT his attempt to be the Republican nominee for president former pizza magnate Herman Cain has said that if he could have any job in the next White House cabinet it would be US Defence Secretary.
Cain was speaking in a television interview on ABC less than a fortnight after he suspended his presidential campaign amid allegations of sexual harassment against women and a 13-year extra marital affair.
He shot to prominence during the campaign, at one stage leading polls, with a bizarre campaign ad, straight talking and a revolutionary but most likely flawed tax plan – known as 9-9-9 – capturing significant voter interest.
But as well as the allegations, his foreign policy credentials were called into question when he seemed to struggle with a question on Barack Obama’s policy in Libya in a recorded interview that went viral.
That makes it all the more surprising that when ABC host Barbara Walters asked what job the ‘The Hermanator’, as he became known, would like in cabinet if he could have any he said:
We are speaking totally, totally hypothetical, right? Department of Defence.
A visibly surprised Walters said: “What?” questioning why he would not pick Treasury and also pointing out his campaign difficulities on foreign policy.
“Yes, but I have been doing my homework ever since that difficulty,” a smiling Cain said confidentally.
At the end of the interview he broke into a rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’. Check it out:
