ACTOR GEORGE CLOONEY is to receive an Emmy Award for his humanitarian work. The Hollywood star will be awarded the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the 62nd Emmy Awards on 29 August. Previous award winners include Oprah Winfrey and Bill Cosby.

Together with some of his Ocean’s Eleven co-stars, Clooney founded “Not on Our Watch”, an organisation which aims to draw attention to humanitarian issues and “atrocities around the world.”

Clooney, who won an Oscar in 2006 for his supporting role in Syriana, was twice nominated for an Emmy when he starred in hit medical drama ER.
