Emma Watson joins laughing protest against Turkish Deputy Prime Minister

Actress uploaded photo of herself LOLling.

EMMA WATSON HAS uploaded a selfie of herself laughing in support of an ongoing campaign against comments made by Turkish deputy prime minister Bülent Arınç.

The deputy prime minister was quoted in a speech as saying:

A man should be moral but women should be moral as well, they should know what is decent and what is not decent. She should not laugh loudly in front of all the world and should preserve her decency at all times.

In response to the comments, Turkish women have been uploading selfies of themselves laughing using the hashtags #direnkahkaha (resist laughter), #direnkadin (resist women) and #kahkaha (laughter).

And they’re incredibly heartwarming.

For her part, Emma Watson was appointed by UN Women as a goodwill ambassador back in July. At the time, she said:

Women’s rights are something so inextricably linked with who I am, so deeply personal and rooted in my life that I can’t imagine an opportunity more exciting. I still have so much to learn, but as I progress I hope to bring more of my individual knowledge, experience and awareness to this role.”

Sounds like she’s off to a good start.
