Hi all, apologies if anyone was offended or upset by the videos, that certainly wasn’t our intention.

I personally have seen these shoes in use on two different occasions – once for medical reasons and once because of extreme temperatures, and the dogs in each case took a few minutes to adjust. In neither case was the animal subjected to cruelty.

In saying that, some readers’ feelings towards this might be completely different, and if you found the videos upsetting then apologies.

It may look cruel, but if you need to walk your dog outside in Canada and it’s -20C then these are necessary. Dog’s feet can get frost bitten on the footpaths. Any dogs I see wearing them look perfectly normal, it just takes some getting used to.

I’ve a similar pair except I’ve 4!

Yes some of the dogs look frightened but its only because they are not use to them !! It’s not cruel if you live in conditions where they are needed!! A dogs paw is very sensitive and can get infected easily from grass , grit or salt on the road !! My dog had to ware them in Ireland because he stepped on a fag but which was still hot and burned his paw !! It took him less than 5mins to get use to him ,I would much rather him where the socks/boots than have him in pain and in the vets !!

Jesus, get over yourselves. This is not animal cruelty any more than trying to get a pup used to walking on a lead. It is something alien to the dog and they have to get used to it. I just happens to look cruel. Some animals need protective clothing. It could be a vet-recommended thing.

Some of those dogs look really unhappy and distressed, but I guess if it makes for a good video it’s okay.

I can’t see how these are cruel. Check out the vid with the Dashound, look at his tail wag, are you telling me he isn’t happy?
My dog was 6 months old when he was hit by a car & lost a leg, he turns 3 next week & is out swimming & on long walks through the forest every day. He regularly walks on sharp stones, or worse, broken bottles from people littering.

Naturally he can’t limp cos he can’t walk on 2 legs. Is it cruel for me to help him by giving him protective boots? Or should I just watch him try to walk on 1 front & 1 back leg? You decide which is cruel.

These socks (apart from the boxer in baby socks) are from pet shops and vet clinics. They are used for medical reasons where dogs have had surgery, cuts to the pads or allergies to certain surfaces. Get over yourselves people, none of the animals are being hurt. It’s just like dressing a child in a funny costume and filming it.

Sometimes dogs can get a skin infection on their paws and they have to wear shoes when going out side ask the skin is very fragile

People should calm down, thats not animal cruelty, u can see the dogs in the videos are loved and cared for, am I a bad mother cos I took a video of my child taking her first taste of a sour orange? Helarious! !!!

Ah cme on it is not cruel it’s not causing them any pain. They are just not used to wearing them hence the dogs have. I’d say after a while they walk completely normally.

Only in America. Apart from the UK where they are trying to train police dogs to wear boots to protect the paws against people throwing broken glass at the dogs. So much broken glass on paths now in certain areas I was thinking of getting boots for my dog. Would this make her a Pooch in Boots?

Will everyone get over themselves, especially those who only watched the first one. The second one WAS Hilarious, these dogs are not being treated cruelly. Dogs do not wag their tails or eat treats if their are distressed, in 4 out of the 6 videos, the animals were either wagging tails and/or getting treats.

These videos are not entertaining. In my view they are completely abusive. These poor dogs are being abused and I wanted to cry when I saw them not laugh. Shame on you for showing them. I only could manage to watch a few seconds before I felt angry. Even if these sick videos are on you tube there is no reason to broadcast them for entertainment, I feel this is just adding to the abuse.

As a big fan of The Journal & especially the Daily Edge’s content, I’m surprised that I found these videos posted here by the site quite distressing. The title of the article is very poorly thought out. Disappointed

Bad shout posting these vids, and the title of the article doesn’t do any favours. All of these animals appear very distressed. I find dogs hilarious in general, but not when they’re being mocked of their basic instincts.

The first video is animal cruelty and, as a result, I did not watch the other videos. The dog is clearly unhappy and distressed. Shame on Emer for the callous, moronic heading she gave to the piece. The Journal Should apologise immediately for posting this.
