A WOMAN HAD to be treated in hospital after dislocating her jaw in an attempt to eat a giant triple-deck beefburger.

Nicola Peate, aged 25, was at a branch of Almost Famous Burgers in Liverpool when she attempted the ‘Kids In America’ burger. It comes with a triple stack of beef patties, pretzels, cheese and candied bacon.

That was the end of her night:

When opening her mouth to eat the montrosity, Peate felt a “cramp” in her tongue, she told the Liverpool Echo.

Then I started to get an ear ache and a headache. The next morning I woke up and felt really, really ill. The whole side of my head was hurting.

She went to hospital, where an X-ray confirmed that she had dislocated her jaw. Happily, a doctor was able to pop it back into place.

Tragically, she didn’t even get to finish the burger: “I tried to eat it with a knife and fork and couldn’t. I couldn’t open my mouth fully.”

The story got out due to an unfortunate personal connection at the Liverpool Royal Hospital:

Peate has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, among the symptoms of which are hyper-flexible joints that may also be prone to dislocation.

The restaurant has since responded to complaints that it was all a giant PR stunt:
