BATMAN: THE DARK Knight Rises opened in Irish cinemas today, with hundreds of fans queueing to be the first to see the new blockbuster.

Several cinemas ran early-morning screenings so audiences could see the film before going to work.

The Lighthouse Cinema in Dublin’s Smithfield – which also changed its Twitter handle for the occasion - said that roughly 600 people packed out its 5am showings of the final film in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

The screening was timed to coincide with the first midnight showing in New York.

So was it worth the early start? Here’s what people thought:

At the moviebowl in Derry they had 6 sold out shows this morning. Incredible atmosphere and many bleary eyes heading to work this morning. The moviebowl has another 14 screenings today, with tickets being snapped up!! Incredible demand.

Watched the first two again last few days and only now am starting to appreciate them so I cant wait for tonight for Rises.The Keaton / Nicholson one is one of my favourite movies of all time, but the Nolan trilogy is growing on me.Give them another shot Keith.Gylenhal was a poor choice alright-agreed!

It was the greatest film I’ll ever see, the best trilogy ever made. It lived up to every bit of hype, the trailers gave noting away and Christopher Nolan is the most talented director of my generation, this was perfection at its most perfect

What on earth has Donald Trump’s ranting garbage got to do with this story??? There’s only a brief comment at the beginning of the video about the Dark Knight Rises. And this is a story about the first screening of the movie in Ireland…. wtf??

Extremely poor (and inexplicable) editorial choice. Get that ranting, racist shit-stirrer off the page.

First one in the Bale/Nolan trilogy, amazing, brilliant, riveting. The second one? Incredibly dreary and boring. Maggie Gyllenhaal looked hungover throughout and was a good representation of the mood. Watched twice in two different moods to make sure it wasnt me. No surprises he made the single most overrated film of all time, Inception, shortly after!
