DANIEL O’DONNELL’S FIRST ever recording ‘as Gaeilge’ will go on sale next month.
The Donegal native has contributed to the charity compilation to help raise funds for a local hospice.
O’Donnell sings the title track of the album Le Cuidiú Dé, which is an Irish translation of the well-known song You Raise Me Up.
According to the Donegal Democrat, the song’s air remains the same but the Irish lyrics were rewritten by Eilín Ní Bhaoill, one of the organisers of the project.
The charity album, featuring 14 songs in Irish, will go on sale on 10 December. Moya Brennan of Clannad and Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh from Altan have also recorded numbers for the compilation.
The Kincasslagh man actually recorded and released a version of Brendan Graham’s You Raise Me Up in 2003 and it reached number 22 in the UK singles charts.
