COLDPLAY HAS ADMITTED that the flashing wristbands they give to audience members at their gigs are costing them a fortune.
NME reports that the group has been handing out 40,000 of the flashing gadgets – which light up during their live shows.
The wristband gimmick is an integral part of Coldplay’s set so the band are determined to keep it going “without going broke” said Chris Martin.
He said that the technology is still relatively new but that they love how it looks to have every audience member lit up at their concerts.
Speaking to The Sun Martin said “most of the money we’re earning on the tour is put into the wristbands”.
In order to save money they had thought about collecting the wristbands at the end of each concert but there are fears this could result in the band being sued. Chris Martin said to The Sun:
You have to clean everything in case someone picks up herpes or TB. Our lawyers told us we’d get sued, and having been sued a few times we’re not keen on that.
