VIDEO: Your weekend movies... Wolverine and Frances Ha

Cinema trip this weekend? TheJournal.ie brings you snippets from new releases to help you decide where to put your money…

WHICH NEW MOVIE release is worth the price of a cinema ticket this weekend?

We’re here to help you decide just that, with these trailers.

Frances Ha

(FilmFestivalVideos/YouTube)

For fans of: Girls (the show), women (the people), New York

Avoid if: You hate hipsters

Bound to appeal to fans of shows like Girls, this film looks at Frances (played by Greta Gerwig), a dancer in her twenties who lives in New York. This comic film explores her friendship with her best friend Sophie, and how it seems to be crumbling, as well as how Frances’ life is heading along a path that she really isn’t sure about. Definitely one for those who wonder what life has in store for them.

Blackfish

(movieclipstrailers/YouTube)

For fans of: Animal welfare, orcas

Avoid if: You cried at Free Willy

This documentary looks at the orca Tilikum, who was involved in the deaths of three people while in captivity in Seaworld. We are taken back to how these enormous and beautiful whales like Tilikum ended up in captivity, and how the conditions they were kept in could have led to their aggressive behaviour. This looks like a thriller as much as it is an exploration of man’s treatment of animals in captivity.

The Wolverine (3D)

(FilmTrilerZone/YouTube)

For fans of: Hugh Jackman, muscles, ninjas

Avoid if: You hate long nails

Oh hi, Hugh. The Wolverine is a pretty dangerous fella, eh? He’s back in this sequel after going incognito for a year. He and his amazing facial hair are brought to modern-day Japan, where they are introduced to a company that offer to make him mortal. This looks pretty… intense.
