Chris O'Dowd slags local politicians as he accepts freedom of Roscommon

Bring in the grazing sheep!

CHRIS O’DOWD has certainly put Roscommon on the map.

The Bridesmaids, Girls and St Vincent star has not only made it big in Hollywood, he also filmed his Sky show Moone Boy on location in his hometown of Boyle.

He and his wife Dawn O’Porter are back on the old sod for a few days to accept the freedom of the county bestowed on him.

He gave an acceptance speech at a ceremony in King House in Boyle this evening in which he threw a few good-natured digs at gathered local politicians and dignitaries.

The Irish Times reports that O’Dowd reference Roscommon people’s distinction as being the longest living in the country being down to them being “too afraid to die”, due to a lack of an A&E department.

He also referenced the county’s boil notices, quipping “what we lack in clean water we make up for in dirty jokes”.

Last week it was announced that a US version of Moone Boy is in the works with O’Dowd set to produce and write. He and co-writer Nick V Murphy have also just launched their first Moone Boy book, which they will celebrate with a Moone Boy festival in Boyle this weekend.

Standing ovation for Bill Murray and Chris O’Dowd’s new film>

O’Dowd making a US Moone Boy, but how did the Irish version go down stateside?
