Chris Brown cancels show in Guyana after protests over Rihanna beating

Plus, listen to Brown and Rihanna’s new song together…

CHRIS BROWN HAS cancelled a stadium concert in Guyana after local protests over his 2009 beating of then-girlfriend Rihanna.

Brown was billed to play on 26 December, but he drew the ire of women’s rights groups and opposition lawmakers who said Brown would not be welcome in Guyana three years after his assault of the Barbadian singer.

Concert promoter Hits & Jams Entertainment said that Brown backed out, citing discomfort with the protests.

In 2009, Brown hit, choked and bit Rihanna during an argument in Los Angeles. He later pleaded guilty to assault.

Since then, Brown has worked to repair his image, undergoing violence counselling and putting out a new album. He has a duet with Rihanna on her recently released record Unapologetic, called Nobody’s Business.

Chris Brown is due to play a gig at Dublin’s O2 Arena on 3 December. The promoters of the event, TCO, Geestar and Music Events Ireland have not responded to requests for information about ticket sales for the gig.

The entertainment society in Trinity College Dublin recently pulled a competition for tickets for the concert after complaints, while Dublin band The Original Rudeboys turned down an invitation to support Brown at the O2.
