VIDEO: Cat celebrates 15 years as town mayor

Ah, the sweet taste of power. Or is that catnip? It’s so hard to tell sometimes.

THEY SAY LOCAL politics is a dog-eat-dog business. So perhaps that’s why Stubbs the cat has risen to the top of his profession – and stayed there.

The short-tailed part-manx was elected mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska 15 years ago and has held the office ever since.

KTUU reports that he took the lead in the town after residents didn’t like the candidates who were running for office, so started a write-in campaign for the local feline as a joke. Then he won.

Stubbs receives callers every afternoon in the general stores. And like any good power player, he celebrated his 15th year in office with a nice glass of catnip:
