‘Busiest boy in Dublin’ finally identified… 44 years after photo

This kid rules.

National Library of Ireland/Flickr

JUST OVER A year ago, the National Library of Ireland uploaded this 1969 photo of Merchant’s Arch, Temple Bar, Dublin.

The pic is lit up by a toddler on a mission, a package over his shoulder and an eager look on his face. The National Library nicknamed him the Busiest Boy In Dublin.

But who was he? What was he doing? WHAT WAS IN THE PACKAGE?

Well, it was a gun. (Presumably a toy one?)

Turns out he was Colm Irwin, aged three. He (literally) found himself three days ago, 44 years after the photo was taken.

“My name is Colm Irwin and I was about three,” he wrote.

for some unknown reason [I] googled images of old Dublin and there was this image a bit surreal seeing yourself in the picture.

Has he changed? “Good bit taller and I still have my own teeth,” apparently.

Here’s to you, Colm. Hope you’re still rocking the shorts and sandals.
