School bully apologises to gay ex-classmate after seeing his viral proposal video

People CAN change.

IT WAS ONE of the sweetest proposal videos we’ve seen in a while, and it seems that even former bullies agree.

Lucas Bane and David Devora from Los Angeles got engaged just before Christmas in an elaborate street party orchestrated by Lucas. Under the guise of a surprise birthday party, Lucas shut down a street and invited Step Up dancers to help him put his proposal in lights, literally.

David, who has been with Lucas for four years, said yes of course.

The video of the proposal quickly went viral, and was seen by people all over the world. One such person, was a former classmate of Lucas’s who used to torment him. The former bully, only known as ‘B’, sent Lucas a message on Facebook to apologise for his behaviour.

I’m sure you have no idea who I am. I went to high school with you. If you do remember me, it’s probably not positive as I was a bit of a asshole back then. I saw your video today on Facebook and wanted to say Congratulations! No need to respond I just wanted you to know that I think what you have is awesome and wish you the best.

AW.

Speaking to the Gaily Grind, Lucas said that B was was “not terrible”, but was “definitely lumped into a group of guys that caused [him] some distress”.

Bane also said that the fact that B reached out to him brought him to tears.

I gasped when I saw the name. Then tears. Before even reading the words I just knew that this was going to be a good note, and when I read the words and his follow-up response, I sobbed. That sounds dramatic but it’s true. A good cry on-and-off for upwards of an hour.

The actor also said that, despite B being just one voice, the apology brought him huge closure.

His apology felt like it spoke for all the people who used to pick on me. Like there was a sad little boy inside me and somebody went up to him and said, “Hey buddy. Don’t worry anymore. We like you.” It was really healing. I meant every word when I said he had given me a gift. I feel incredible.

Your mother was wrong. He CAN change.
