Brendan Courtney receives outpouring of support after homophobic abuse on Dublin street

The TV presenter received verbal abuse.

FASHION DESIGNER AND broadcaster Brendan Courtney has received an outpour of support after speaking out about homophobic abuse he received in the street.

On Tuesday afternoon, Courtney tweeted his outrage at derogatory comments aimed at him when walking down Dublin’s Exchequer Street.

Courtney told the Independent.ie that he stopped posting about incidents online until recently, inspired by Pantibliss’ public speaking against homophobia. The presenter was beaten in a homophobic assault in 2011 on George’s Street and was forced to attend the IFTAs the next day with a black eye.

The response to the incident on social media was largely positive, with fans and friends quick to jump to his defence
