Woman who dressed as Boston Marathon victim faces job loss and death threats

The 22-year-old has received rape and death threats online

A WOMAN WHO put together an ill-advised Boston Marathon bombing victim costume for Halloween has been asked to leave her job and received death threats.

The 22-year-old from Michigan was named online as Alicia Ann Lynch after she posted photos of herself wearing the outfit on Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #TooSoon?

Her social media accounts have now been closed or suspended, but according to Jezebel she was identified and threatened before she could retract the images.

Lynch and her family received rape and death threats and abuse after she was identified via a picture of her driving licence she had posted online.

Buzzfeed reports that attempts were also made to track down her father’s place of work.

Lynch had attempted to apologise via social media, before shutting down her accounts.

Three people were killed and 260 were injured in the Boston Marathon bombing in April of this year.

In the wake of a Buzzfeed article about Lynch’s costume she contacted the site yesterday to again apologise for her behaviour.

She referenced the rape threats and revealed that she had been the victim of a sexual assault last year.

She also confirmed that she had lost her job.

Lynch said that the thought that her costume might attract this kind of attention hadn’t crossed her mind, and that others had find the idea amusing. She explained that she wasn’t portraying a dead person, but a survivor.
