6 vintage Bosco stars… where are they now?

Hello boys and girls…

THIS COULD EASILY have been “60 vintage Bosco stars”, such are the memories.

We think we might have to return to Ireland’s favourite ginger and all his little friends.

For now, here are a few of our favourites:

6 vintage Bosco stars… where are they now?
1 / 6
  • Bosco

Bosco lived in that box and entertained us for years, and he's still entertaining children around the country (even though we have no idea how they know who he is). There is a nasty rumour that Bosco is transported in a lunch box these days though. How the mighty have fallen.
  • Frank Twomey

Frank was a staple on Bosco and could often be seen lobbing the gob on Gráinne during the Christmas episode. He went on to play the likes of Mary O'Rourke and Celia Larkin on Bull Island, and take part in Joe Duffy's Funny Friday on Radio One.
  • The magic door

"Knock knock open wide, see what's on the other side. Knock Knock any more, come with me through the magic door". Nobody knows where the magic door ended up. But if you still had it now you could make a fortune, transporting people to the zoo or the milk bottling factory in the blink of an eye.
  • Marian Richardson

Marian's dungarees were nearly as famous as Bosco's box. She presented the show for 12 years and did the voices of Gregory Grainneog, Charlie Crann and the Tongue Twisters. She went on to work on Morning Ireland, This Week, Six One and Today with Pat Kenny, before moving onto Playback on Saturday mornings.
  • Síle the snail

Sile palled around with Gregory Grainneog and co, in their slightly terrifying plasticine world. She was usually the voice of reason and often stopped them from following through on their hair-brained ideas. These days Síle is missing, presumed giving advice somewhere. Get in touch Síle.
  • Gráinne Uí Mhaitiú

Gráinne's singing voice was something we endured on Bosco for several years. A lark she was not. It's thought she left TV presenting to become a sheep farmer and basket maker. No really.

You can catch up with some classic episodes of Bosco on the RTÉ player until December>
