The Barbican Theatre’s production of Hamlet will star the Sherlock star in the title role. The run isn’t slated to begin until August 2015, but tickets went on sale yesterday and within minutes, thousands of fans stormed the theatre’s website.
By the end of the day, the tickets for the full twelve-week run had sold out, making Hamlet the most in-demand theatre production of all time.
According to ticket marketplace Viagogo, the production is beating Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s On The Run tour when it comes to online searches by more than 200%.
The Barbican’s website notes that while the current run is sold out, 100 tickets for each performance priced at £10 will go on sale in 2015.
