FOUR MEMBERS OF AN anti-war theatre group travelling from Northern Ireland to Bosnia were arrested after bullets were found inside one of their costumes.
Some of the crew behind The Conquest of Happiness were on their way to Sarajevo for a performance when they were stopped by security in Belfast City Airport.
Officers had detected 12 live rounds sewn into a denim jacket used by an actor who portrays a war correspondent.
Show co-creator Emma Jordan said they were released without charge yesterday after explaining they had bought the jacket on the internet and didn’t realize it was decorated with real bullets.
The production of The Conquest of Happiness had premiered in Derry earlier this month as part of the City of Culture’s theatre programme.
It’s inspired by the writings of Bertrand Russell, directed by Bosnian Haris Pašović and dramatises bloodshed from the Middle East, Vietnam, Northern Ireland, Cambodia, Chile and Bosnia.
