Washington Post writer gives some useful advice to homophobic parent

Boom, roasted.

A READER OF the Washington Post’s Ask Amy advice column wrote in to ask for advice about their homosexual 17-year-old son.

They explained that he wouldn’t “listen to reason” and “will not stop being gay”.

The parent, who called themselves ‘Feeling Betrayed’, also said that they felt that their son was being gay to get back at them for forgetting a birthday.

Here’s the letter in full:

Amy Dickinson, the paper’s syndicated advice columnist, had this to say to them:

You could teach your son an important lesson by changing you own sexuality to show him how easy it is.

She goes on to say:

I assume that my suggestion will evoke a reaction that your sexuality is at the core of who you are. The same is true for your son. He has a right to be accepted by his parents for being exactly who he is.

Dickinson has said that she hopes (but doesn’t think) the letter was in fact fake, calling the supposed writer an “idiot”.

You can read the whole column here in the Washington Post, or on Dickinson’s own blog.
