THERE ARE LOTS of cute and cuddly creatures in this world. The poor old anglerfish is most definitely not one of them.
Researchers at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California managed to catch a rare glimpse of the Black Seadevil (or anglerfish) swimming at a depth of 600 metres.
It’s believed to be the first ever video of the species alive and swimming around, and well, we can see why few people would want to get too close.
Senior scientist Bruce Robison describes the anglerfish as “ambush predators” who use their flashlight-like ‘fishing pole’ to attract prey, before swallowing them whole.
Lovely, lovely creatures.
