You might never look at the capital the same way.

CARTOGRAPHER MUIRIS de Buitleír has assembled a series of alternative maps of Dublin, giving fresh insights into the geography of the capital.

They are published in his book A Portrait of Dublin in Maps. Here are five of the most striking:

1. Godlessness

This map shows the percentage of people in each area saying they are not religious – the darker, the greater.

This map shows where the major sewers and other drainage tunnels run under the streets of the capital.

This map shows the percentage of the population living in single-room accommodation – the darker, the greater.

This map shows the middle classes as a percentage of the population – the darker the area, the greater the proportion of middle-class residents.
