In my opinion Christoph Waltz is a shoe in for best supporting for Django particularly since its nearly more of a joint leading role than it is a supporting role.

Look at the history of winners and it’s obvious the academy loves people portraying historical characters. I don’t understand why, surely mimicry is the easiest form of acting?

Kings Speech and Gladiator(if you want to count that) are the only two films in the last 20 years that have ‘Historical Characters’ as their core, that won best picture, after 20 years you have Schindlers List, go back another ten odd years and you get Ghandi. The last ten years we had The departed(possibly my favorite ever movie), the hurt locker, lord of the rings, million dollar baby etc etc.

Foxx for Ray, Hoffman for Capote, Whitaker for Amin, Penn for Milk and Firth for King George.

Django is quality but not for the squimish or easily offended. Lincoln is very good but a little boring if American history isn’t your thing. Argo probably has the best of both worlds. It’s hard to call.

Its more in the line of the franchises like the Marvel films etc, good effects, entertaining and enjoyable. But not a film you’d talk about for a year after seeing it, In my opinion of course

FIlms aren’t great because they contain some boom booms and bang bangs. Or a main character that spends half his time pouting rather than acting.
It is also not usual for films to be rewarded for stealing story lines in such an incredibly obvious fashion.

100% agreed. Best film by a million miles. My wife and I drove home in silence afterwards, it hits you that hard.

Bet she plays the movie every night just for the silence … Lol(joke)
