6 celebrities who sport Irish design

Kate Middleton has been spotted for the second time wearing an Orla Kiely design – she’s not the only celebrity clothes horse who has taken to wearing of the green…

KATE MIDDLETON IS the latest celeb to sport some of Ireland’s best designs. The British royal was spotted in yet another Orla Kiely number while visiting an art gallery. She wore a coat by the same designer on a previous engagement earlier this year.

She is of not the first celebrity to showcase some Irish designers’ best work. Here is a run down of some other designs that have got their 15 minutes of fame:

Lady Gaga – An oddity perhaps, but a great supporter of Irish designers. She has donned many a gown and hat created by Irish designers. Last year she appeared on the Graham Norton Show wearing a Sorcha Ó Raghallaigh design (below). The Offaly-born designer said she nearly had a “mini-heart attack” when she heard that the pop diva was going to wear one of her designs on the show.

Oprah – You know you’ve made it when the most powerful woman in television chooses your gown to wear to the Oscars. Don O’Neill, originally from Ballyheigue, Co Kerry, said it was a “huge deal” to dress the chat show queen. The gold spangled Theia dress (O’ Neill’s label) got many comparisons to the Oscar statuette itself.

Sarah Jessica Parker - The Sex & The City star is huge fan of Galwegian milliner Philip Treacy, having sported his head gear on many occasions. The 46- year- old loves his designs so much she has worn his creations to the London premieres of both Sex & The City movies.

Princess Beatrice- She is probably the British royal celebrity that has caused most controversy by wearing Irish designs. Philip Treacey received a massive backlash against the hat he designed for the princess for the royal wedding last year. The hat that quickly became known as “the octopus” was later sold by Princess Beatrice on eBay for £81,101. The young royal decided to capitalize on the frenzy that surrounded the hat and donated all the earnings to charity.

Gillian Anderson -There is nothing eerie about this gown. The former X Files actress wore a vintage outfit by Irish designer Sybil Connolly at this years Bafta Awards.
